1. Narrative Purpose

The Task Force chooses to hurt whatever is left of a man in order to win. The mission works, and the cost is recorded. Asano faces relentless pressure that humor cannot touch, and Marsh finally gives her permission not to perform.

2. Briefing

Tier 3. Radiation-induced confusion above 30 kilometers is a reproducible vulnerability (Case Zeta). The plan: deny the aircraft every altitude below 30 km until it zooms out of the volume to escape, then hold it there.

Ethical warning: this operation provokes distress in a non-consenting human neural residue. Strategic caution: every Tier 3 operation accelerates degradation of the tissue assessed as our best defense against Outcome C.

Major Thorne has signed the authorization and recorded that he was briefed on both. Captain Eirhei's objection is entered in the operation log.

3. Objectives

4. Flow

Phase 1: Herding. The aircraft is detected entering the corridor. Allied fighters and ground-based air defense close the low and middle altitudes. The player and the flight occupy the 10–15 km band, where their aircraft can still fight. Every time the aircraft dips, the flight threatens it from below. It climbs.

Phase 2: Above. The aircraft zooms past 30 km. Asano's Read display tracks it as a thin, unstable return. Then the loop begins on the open channel, in Belyaev's cadence:

"Eject. Eject. Eject."

It continues, unbroken, for the length of the phase. The aircraft circles above the volume. Asano's Load rises steadily with no event that releases it. Her calls become bright and empty; the Read display dims as her Load climbs.

Phase 3: The private channel. At a scripted point, Marsh opens the private channel.

SIX (private): "Nine. You don't have to be funny. Not for this." NINE (private): "...Okay."

Her Load stops rising. For the rest of the mission her calls are plain and her Read display returns to full.

Phase 4: The fall. The aircraft descends out of the loop in rapid deceleration (thermal shock) straight into the missile volume. Allied BVR fire comes in from multiple vectors. The flight must keep it from leveling off in the corridor's middle band. The aircraft takes heavy damage to one engine and is observed venting cryogen.

Phase 5: Escape. It breaks out through a gap the allied fighters leave when one flight is EMP'd. The player cannot close it.

7. Debrief and Circle

The cell reports the damage: one engine degraded, cryogen loss, substrate-cooling margin collapsing. It must reach slush hydrogen within weeks. A second line follows: tissue degradation projections have moved forward by an estimated four months.

Eirhei, in the circle, names what she felt: "Ashamed." Thorne does not pass. He says: "So am I. I would sign it again." Asano says she is tired. It is the first time anyone has heard her say it.
